Eight years make quite a difference in the growth of a tree and a boy. As a four-year-old cowboy, Wallace Whatley, Jr., of Opelika, Alabama, could easily step over the top of this tree, which was then a one-year-old seedling. Today, as a 12-year-old Boy Scout, Wallace can not reach around the nine-year-old tree with both hands.
